Name: | Max Hudson, ADA |
---|---|
Location: | Gotham City, New Jersey, United States |
Name: Maxwell S. "Max" Hudson
Occupation: Assistant District Attorney for Gotham City
Marital Status: Divorced
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 185lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: Brown
Background: Born to a fairly wealthy family, Max's father Jack is a retired Air Force colonel. Expected to follow his father's lead, he had a brief stint in the armed forces as a Marine during the first Gulf War. During the conflict, he and his comrades were ambushed thanks to a combination of bad intelligence and a major chain-of-command SNAFU. He took RPG shrapnel to the left leg, and lost two friends in the firefight that followed. Attempts to press the issue met with stonewalling from the brass, and he was finally given the choice of an honorable discharge or a court martial if he continued. He took the discharge. He and his father haven't been on speaking terms for years as a result; and he'd rather not talk about his military background.
Max married young, and though he and his wife are long divorced, they're on reasonably amicable terms, though they don't speak or see each other often. They have no children.
As Gotham's ADA for about two years, his disorganized-seeming office is the source of a constant battle between him and his secretary. His vices include drinking and smoking, though not always to excess; and a tendency to swear like a sailor when he's not in the courtroom. He keeps a .38 in his desk after an unpleasant Mob case he prosecuted some time ago. He doesn't have much of a social life - but that's hardly a surprise when he works the hours he does. Don't touch the chaos in his office - he's got a system, but it's a secret to everyone, including his secretary.
Personality: Max is direct, blunt and unapologetic; thorough and driven. He's a grumpy old fart who really isn't that old or grumpy. Overworked and underpaid, he smokes too much and should have a coffee IV set up in his office for all the time he spends there. He's a straight man to the core - you can't always tell if he's joking or being deadly serious. He hates surprises - in his line of work, surprises mean complications. Next to nothing shocks him (with the possible exception of Superman appearing at his window). He harbors a profound disdain for the reckless vigilantism in the city that frequently makes cases difficult to effectively prosecute. He's cautious but not paranoid. He likes women and can talk a good game, but doesn't have the time or inclination for a serious relationship.
